The Fallout TV series has landed and fortunately, Amazon Studios managed not to screw up this franchise. It helps that Todd Howard, the Fallout creator is an executive producer of the show and the showrunners have a lot of respect for the source material. It was an instant success and there are many easter eggs from the games featured in the show.

However, there are a few major things that we did not get to see, and some are glaring. Here are a few of the things that we wish to see in the Fallout TV show.

Spoiler Alert

If you haven’t seen the show, I suggest not reading below. You have been warned, dear reader.

Laser Guns, fired

Laser gun held by the NCR leader is clearly shown, but not fired. Tsk tsk tsk.

Laser Guns are shown twice in the show. First, the laser rifle was held by the Enclave guards. Second, a laser pistol was shown being cocked by the NCR leader, Ms . There’s also a plasma rifle shown in a shop, in the background in one of the shops that Lucy McLean visited.

None of the energy weapons that were shown are fired. The show broke the Chekhov’s Gun rule which is a disappointment.

Lesser Factions

The factions that are shown in the first season were the New California Republic (or what's left of it), Brotherhood of Steel, Vault-Tec, and a glimpse of the Enclave. Hopefully, we see more factions in the second season.

Granted, the show wanted to introduce the world of Fallout to non-fans of the game. There are a lot of factions in Fallout and the show just covers three of the major factions: the Brotherhood of Steel, the New California Republic (a bit defunct), and briefly the Enclave. And Vaultec Corporation if you count that it.

Since the show is set in California and Fallout: New Vegas is canon, we don’t get to know the fate of other major factions in play in California like the Ceasar’s legion, Mr House, and Yes Man. Although Robert House does make an appearance at the season finale, we do not know his fate.

Yes, there are only 8 episodes for season 1 and there’s a lot of lore in Fallout to cover, yet, we do not get any hints about those factions in the series.

Gatling Gun

The closest thing we got to some Gatling gun action

One of the main images that got etched in our youth is a person in a Power Armour, armed to the teeth with a Gatling gun and mowing down people with it. Unfortunately, the Power Armour in the TV series got a bit nerfed. The closest thing we got is a Power Armour guy in a Vertibird with a mounted Gatling gun. Not as satisfying as a group of Power Armour guys taking over a base, but it will have to do for now.

Super Mutants

Hints of Supermutant activity. Note the green hand in the stretcher. Maybe for season 2?

In the first Fallout game, one of the big bad people is the Super Mutants, humans that have been experimented to create superhumans, but instead, we got super monsters. In the series, it was only hinted at during flashback scenes in the Enclave, but other than that, they are not present nor discussed in the TV show.

Deathclaw

In the last scene, we only got a deathclaw skull.

Of all the creatures in the wasteland, the scariest monster out there is the Deathclaw. Fast, deadly, and can take a punch, fighting a Deathclaw is not for the faint of heart. We only get a hint of it in the final scene of the show where the protagonist’s dad walks in the desert and finds a Deathclaw skull. We hope to see a live one in the next season.

Conclusion

Overall, the series was off to a good start. Introducing the world of Fallout to newcomers, it is understandable to slowly introduce characters so as not to overwhelm new fans. With the source materials that go back to the 1990s, there’s a lot to unpack, and certainly would not be enough for an 8-episode TV show. But the good news is there’s a lot of source material and with good writing, the show can last for a long time. We look forward to seeing our beloved characters come to life as they go to New Vegas.

Fallout is available on Amazon Prime Video. You can view or sign-up here. The second season has been announced and is expected to be released in 2025
