Humanoid robots have been touted since the creation of the idea of robots back in the 1920s. Yes, believe it or not, people has been thinkering, toying with the idea of artificial lifeforms replacing or augmenting humans before the concept of a computer even exists. And today, the technology has grown exponentially. A decade ago, the idea of humanoid robots replacing factory workers was laughable. Today, we are on the cusp of that whisper of an idea becoming a reality. Here are some of the humanoid robots that you can actually buy today and put to work in your factory.
Figure
Figure is a company from California. They are a relatively young company, which was founded in 2022 by Brett Adcock. Despite the company being young, they already have robots that are field tested. Their Figure 02 robot has been put in use in BMW assembly line to automate some tasks. After a year of usage, the next version, Figure 03, is expected to be field tested on the assembly line.
The robot measures around 5'8" (1.73m), weighs 61kg, and can carry up to 20kg sustained. Have a 5-hour battery life and can walk around at 1.2m/s. Although the price is not annouced, but it was reported that Figure 02 costs around $100,000 to $130,000. The next version should be cheaper.
Figure 02 robot has been field-tested to produce components for the X3 assembly.
Boston Dynamics
Boston Dynamics is the leading name in humanoid robots. They have been working on a humanoid robot since 1992, a very long time in tech. It was born in the research labs of MIT. After a series of accusations around Google, Softbank, and now Hyundai, their humanoid robots Atlas, is now ready for prime time.
Boston Dynamics promises a 4-hour battery life (the robot can change it’s own batteries), 1.9m tall, weighs 90kg and can carry up to 50kg in load. One interesting feature of the robots is that their joints can articulate 360 degrees, unlike a human. No prices have been announced, but since Spot, their robot dog, costs $75,000, it is expected Atlas should cost around double or triple that. Imagine a future where the price of Atlas reaches a point that allows it to outcompete traditional automation with a lower cost per task. As we project potential price-versus-productivity curves, it’s fascinating to consider how a tipping point could catalyze an industry-wide disruption, changing the dynamics of manufacturing and providing countless new opportunities.

Ubtech Robotics
China has been quietly going under the radar in their robots and AI research. When we think of China, we think of dirty factories with underpaid workers churning out crappy products that are sold on razor-thin margins. That is so much further from the truth nowadays. Today, Chinese factories are clean, full of robots building high-quality, high-tech gadgets with fat profit margins.
Ubtech Robotics was established in 2012 and is the leading humanoid robot company in China and the world. Their latest Walker S2 Industrial Humanoid Robot can be bought through AliBaba for $100,000. They have been field-tested to help build NIO cars, another Chinese EV company.
The Walker S2 can carry 7.5kg on one hand, it’s fingers alone can carry up to 1kg. It is 176cm high and weighs 70kg.

Conclusion
The age of humanoid robots, for better or worse, is here. At this point, it’s impossible to predict what kind of revolution the robots will bring to the human condition, but one thing is certain: things will change in the future. Right now, the humanoid robots looks like a solution in search of a problem since a lot of jobs that the humanoid robots can be done via specially-purpose-built robots. How will things play out? Eventually, we all will find out.
